In this new interweb age online shopping is becoming more and more popular. What's your favorite online place to shop?

My favorite place to shop is of course Ebay. They only have EVERYTHING! I just got a package of a ton of cosplay items for Vampire knight, each item was about 3 dollars because it was coming straight from China. Of course the shipping and handling was expensive (about $20 total), but I think it was well worth it.

Well I typically pick one for everything in life, but I can name the different sites I enjoy shopping at.

[For gourmet, or exotic foods] iGourmet.com

[For collectors games, and rare wonders] eBay.com (I got my quest for glory from there)

[For definite tech, gadgets, and oddities] Amazon.com

[For insanely random and reasonable bargains] Buy.com

I usually use amazon.at, and if it's too expensive I look at ebay.at (at stands for Austria)

The only place I've really shopped online at has been Dell but does the Blizzard Store count? I haven't bought anything from Oxhorn's store yet but very soon I will, mark my words! :)

Only somewhat, in fact I think it's a silly load to buy only the non-perishables. I buy Cheese, sausage, pasta, cured meats [jerky], exotic teas, wild boar, and honeys.

I don't like buying goods online, I prefer to deal in concrete matter, with cash. I fear the internet and most technology will ruin my small amount of money as it is. However, I'm paranoid and untrusting of many things; perhaps it's because I was raised by people who lived through the Great Depression and am always expecting things to fail, and computers fail quite frequently. I believe in the stock market they call them "crash algorithms" one such incident dropping the market 1000 points in 10 seconds -May 06 2010. However, don't let my fear and frugality hinder your online purchases!

I agree with you Baron; I am a bit skeptical about buying online. It is, after all, much easier to hack into someone's online accounts and steal their identity through the net. Obviously I have taken the risk a few times, for certain things but I won't go overboard. I will also never do online banking or open up an online account for my bank. That, in my opinion, is the riskiest thing of all.

Online shopping and online banking are perfectly fine to do, and 100% safe PROVIDING you don't fall into the caveats that 98% of people who get hacked do.

First off, most places use a 32 bit, 64, or 128 bit hey encryption. What that means is someone was listening, they'd get the info coded. A 128 bit encryption would take a CRAY computer (currently the fastest computers on the planet) 10,000 years to break.

During Christmas, I ONLY shop online for all my relatives.

So, what to look for? First off - look for a lock symbol. Depending on your web browser it will be located somewhere (firefox it is in the lower right). Second, look for httpS - the "S" is for secure.

Unlike other http sites, an "S" site, cost serious money to buy. That is why a great deal of private individuals will use services rather than shelling out 500-1000 dollars a year.

Third, always keep your virus checkers up to date. The biggest issue is people visit sites that have key loggers and cookies. The key loggers sites is why people fail.

You should also have different passwords for EVERY site. From Oxhorn's site to every single site that has a password.

And Baron it's not like those days of the Great Depression. Everything is handled electronically. If tomorrow, every computer on the planet failed, the world would be in chaos. No store would run (electronic cash registers), no calls other than land lines, no transportation; basically a world of chaos. At that point, your paper money would mean nothing.

I agree with you John, the internet is a safer place than it used to be. However I fail to see how money being useless and a world of chaos is terribly different than what happened during the Depression (the only difference being it would be technology's fault).

Basically what I'm driving at, is as careful as I try to be, I am always second guessing the actions of others and myself, and I flat don't trust the internet (Where men are men, women are men, and children are the FBI!). I am very cautious with my money, I've lost it several times due to carelessness and I don't play on repeating that mistake by using one of the least regulated means of communication in the world.

On the internet everyone is a con-artist, someone will always regard you as "just words from the other side of the screen" ripe for the picking. I wish I had as much faith in technology as you did John, however I feel it will inevitably be our downfall. The more we come to trust in it, and believe in it's impossibility to fail, the more likely it will.

And frankly I don't have the money to gamble on a 99% predicted chance that my money might be safe.
