In your opinion which song is the darkest song to appear in any Disney film? (Animated or otherwise).
For me, this has to be one of the contenders:

Well, when I originally saw the topic, I was going to suggest the above song, it' also very good in French, Infernal. Be prepared in the Lion King was also nice and Dark, making a gaggle of Hyenas look like the Third Reich. I know it's not Disney, but Anastasia's "In the Dark of the Night" was a nice dark song, especially at the end. While it lack lyrics, Fantasia - Night on Bald Mountain was dark, possibly the imagery. There are some others, but those are my favorites.
Gott gesegnet tag,
Der Baron Mueller
This has little bearing on this thread topic but since Baron Mueller mentioned the Fantasia scene I couldn't help but point something out. I am related to Richard Wagner who composed 'The Ride of the Valkyries' which is what I'm guessing you're referring to with the Night on Bald Mountain, been a while since I watched Fantasia but I think I'm right. If I could remember exactly what my relationship is to him I'd tell you guys but let's just say a very distant cousin, for simplification.
I have to agree with John DeJordy's post. When I was little that seen had to be fastforworded though because it creeped me out. Now that I'm older it doesn't creep it out so much, it just seems like a weird song to put into a kids movie.
Yeesh, what's twisted about that video is what a horrible picture of Christianity it gives to kids. An arrogant priest "justly proud" of his own virtue, hating the "vulgar" masses? Praying to Mary? Lusting after a gypsy, and asking Mary to either give her to him or kill her? Threatening to burn down Paris?
Thanks a lot Disney.
Well, to be fair he is Catholic. Ah, I kid. While Frolo is twisted, Disney is ofter very diverse with their villians, for example Jaffar was Muslim, in the original Aladdin he says "Allah" at least 3 times. Oddly enough, despite Walt Disney's own antisemitism I don't think there has been a Jewish villain.
Interesting indeed.

Hellfire, I just love the background singing and the visuals are terrific. It is extremely dark... I mean come on... you got an evil priest singing about burning someone alive. I also like it when he turns back to the wall and the shadows make it look like he's about to be beheaded.
So in short... dark and awesome.
It's an excellent song, painting the dark tragedies of a man consumed by his own power from years of abusing it. His sins burden him, and jealousy consumes. To quote the Nostalgia Critic, "Sounds like a 15th century Bill O' Reily to me!"
Ah another fan of the Nostalgia Critic! I too enjoyed his view on this song.
I agree, Hellfire is easily the most dark and disturbing of all the Disney songs, but the character really captures what was wrong with the catholic church when it was "in power", ungodly men took advantage of the authority it gave them.
I'm watching The Tudors with my mom (the skin scenes are a bit much, but meh.) The most interesting thing I've found in the show is the content about the reformation.
Princess and the Frog actually turned out to be a really good Disney film. The song "Friends on the Other Side" is a contender for dark disney music.

While I would prefer the cure for the voodoo curse in the story was not advice from a "good" voodoo queen, I really like the moral distinction the show teaches between getting what you want, vs. getting what you actually need instead.
I love that voice actor, what's his name? The one singing. In Dusky's that is.
That'd be Keith David. He also voices Captain Anderson in the Mass Effect game series, Goliath in the Gargoyles cartoon series and a lot of narration work on Ken Burn's documentaries. (He's got an incredible voice.)
OP beat me to the darkest song. He is one sinister man. Remember the part of the movie where he tried to burn the innocent family? Dark. That movie was dark
